Our sibling studio on Bundjalung country in the Northern Rivers of NSW has been operating for over a year and we couldn’t be more thrilled with our growing and diverse portfolio of work in the region. Unlike a traditional branch office, the studio is a base for servicing our clients, as well as a space for making and exhibiting, and a place where staff can retreat for focused work or a getaway.
Our deep kinship with the place began over a decade ago with the wonderful and ongoing patronage of our clients at Lune de Sang in the Byron Bay hinterland. Our network and body of work continues to evolve and extend into its second decade. We are excited to offer a combination of local knowledge together with the depth of design & delivery capacity of the whole practice.
Our current projects include a masterplan for a significant mixed use urban renewal project in Tweed Heads, boutique shop-top housing in Cabarita and a vision for the future of the performing arts community in Lismore. There are also a number of bespoke residential commissions spread across the region.
The diversity of work and challenging briefs put forward by our wonderful client group is testament to an evolving design culture in the region that we look forward to continue contributing to.
A warm welcome to current and future clients and collaborators, local thinkers and makers as the studio evolves.

Shortlisted for the houses (New) AIA NSW Award, Little Manly House was inspired by our Client’s attraction to mid-century modern architecture and the iconic homes of Palm Springs USA.
We adapted the gently stepping horizontal forms of the Kaufman House by architect Richard Neutra, to the more confined urban context of Manly to create a ‘comfortableness’ in the composition of the house which expresses itself as an ensemble of gently stepped horizontal volumes composed to mediate the disparate scale of its immediate neighbours.
The project harnesses the natural flow of water through the site to create a lush garden oasis that amplifies the value of the relationship between the house and garden.

Shortlisted for the Multi Residential category of the AIA NSW Awards, the Crossing is a multi-residential development comprising commercial spaces at street level, above ground parking, topped by 4 residential blocks, each responding dynamically to the available views and site geometry of Newcastle. The 4 towering volumes are connected by an external breezeway that provides connection to the integrated landscaping as well views in multiple directions to the city beyond. The project aims to provide a more personalised way of living that is more in tune with the environment. The architecture and materiality encompass the essence of Newcastle, referencing its industrial past while providing a lighter contemporary expression that sits with its future as a waterfront city.

Burwood Council, working with CHROFI and TYRRELL STUDIO have submitted the development application for the Burwood Urban Park, Arts and Cultural Centre. The Burwood Urban Park, Arts and Cultural Centre project is designed to bring much needed open space and tree canopy into Burwood’s Town Centre while providing a complimentary suite of new community facilities to build upon those already provided at the Burwood Library and Community Hub. The Urban Park will provide a variety of experiences for the diverse community who live and work in the town centre. The Cultural Centre will become a creative hub for Burwood, helping to form a civic and cultural precinct, and providing an array of dynamic spaces for the community. The proposal engages with the rich history of heritage buildings in Burwood by taking inspiration from the terracotta textures of the Appian Way federation homes and the fine grain brick work at Burwood Public School.

We are very pleased to be working with Waverley Council on some tactical insertions into the iconic Bondi seawall. The insertions will exploit the unique stepped section of the beachfront to deliver much needed program whilst respecting the unique qualities that make Bondi Bondi. Not a bad site visit either...
