Program: Amenities, Shelters
Scale: 90sqm Amenities Pavilion 24sqm Shade Structures
Year: 2013
CHROFI worked with Parramatta Park Trust to develop a suite of amenities pavilions and public shelters to be deployed as part of the incremental redevelopment of Parramatta Park. The structures are designed to work in a variety of possible locations. The dark painted steel recedes with the shadows and dark trunks of the surrounding Cumberland plain trees while the recycled Blackbutt timber cladding will weather and grey to further nestle the project into its surrounds. A translucent fibreglass roof with a perforated zincalume soffit creates a canopy of diffuse natural light. Generous overhangs provide shade and shelter while an open timber batten cladding allows for natural ventilation. The design seeks to balance a sense of privacy and protection with passive surveillance, security and vandal resistance.
