CHROFI participated in a Design Excellence Competition for this important site in Sydney. The project contains inherent design challenges and opportunities, as a significant envelope with unrivalled views of Sydney Harbour is available, whilst being sited within a sensitive low-scale heritage precinct. In response, our design establishes a framework that stitches the development into its historically rich context. The scheme returns the ground to its original level, greatly improving connectivity from Macquarie Street to Circular Quay. Creating a through site link that provides a generous mix of communal and public space activated by F&B offers. In the Towers, the facade finds a delicate balance between being a robust surface that provides the performance requirements needed by the building and the openess that takes advantage of the spectacular panoramic views of the site. The warm hues and materiality of the stepping volumes plays off the stately heritage fabric that surrounds it.
