Won through a competitive design process, this project is a large scale multi-residential masterplanning and building design project on the current site of Channel 9 Headquarters in Willoughby, Sydney.

The project includes master planning for 510 apartments and commercial spaces across 10buildings of up to 12 storeys. CHROFIs competition winning scheme demonstrates design excellence, strong commercial viability, an innovative approach and a sensitive response to an established suburban context and a sceptical community.

Now under construction, the site had a concept plan approval for the development of 460 new dwellings and approximately 6,000 square metres of public open space.

The project, which unlocks the site to the public for the first time in more than 60 years, will bring to life a new community, featuring premium residences within a collection of high-quality boutique buildings, nestled amongst generous open spaces and landscaping.

A range of community benefits are proposed, including approximately 6,000 square metres of publicly accessible open space, the delivery of complementary retail, new and upgraded connections, and a mix of dwellings which will contribute to housing diversity in the area.

CHROFI is now continuing in a design collaboration with Mirvac to design and deliver these buildings and public spaces.

Intelligent place making, with a focus on significant public benefit, has created a robust framework for the new development. The scheme offers significant public open space, maintains the maximum height set by the approval, improves solar access to adjoining dwellings and creates a more successful built form relationship with the surrounding context.

In this project, community and authority consultation has been a crucial focus. Clear visual communication of the public benefit and urban design ideals, from the simple diagrams to visionary renders, has ensured the core principles have been understood by all.
